Masjid ini merupakan bangunan bersejarah milik warga Palestina sejak abad ke-13 yang berada di kota Safed.<\/p>\n<p>Berdasarkan laporan surat kabar Al-Quds-Al-Arabi fungsi masjid ini diubah oleh perusahaan yang berafiliasi dengan pemerintah Israel. Nama bangunan ini juga diubah dari Masjid Al-Ahmad menjadi Khan Al-Ahmad.<\/p>\n<p>Sejarawan asli Safed, Dr Mustafa Abbasi, menjelaskan Masjid Al-Ahmar yang dibangun pada 1276 ini memiliki nilai historis dan arsitektur yang langka. Nama Al-Ahmar berasal dari batu berwarna merah pada bangunannya.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hari ini, masjid ini digunakan dalam berbagai cara tetapi bukan sebagai ruang sholat bagi umat Islam,&#8221; kata Dr. Abbasi, seperti dikutip Gulf News.<\/p>\n<p>Pada tahun 1948,\u00a0masjid\u00a0ini dikuasai oleh sejumlah kelompok Yahudi. Sejak itu fungsi masjid berubah-ubah, mulai dari sekolah Yahudi, pusat kampanye pemilu partai Likud dan gudang pakaian.<\/p>\n<p>Sementara, Sekretaris Safed and Tiberias Islamic, Khair Tabari mengatakan ia menunggu keputusan pengadilan Nazaretuh terkait gugatan yang diajukan untuk meminta mengembalikan fungsi bangunan bersejarah itu menjadi masjid.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Saya telah menyerahkan dokumen untuk membuktikan kepemilikan umat Islam atas masjid tersebut,&#8221; ujarnya seperti dilansir dari\u00a0CNNIndonesia.com.<\/p>\n<p>Ia juga mendorong berbagai lembaga politik untuk meningkatkan kerja sama demi menyelamatkan bangunan masjid dari penyalahgunaan. Pasalnya, pengubahan fungsi masjid membuat terbuka untuk digunakan semua orang kecuali umat Islam.<\/p>\n<p>Kota Safed merupakan daerah yang pernah dihuni 12 ribu warga Palestina.
